Label The Groceries (Level 1)

Activity type: Offline
For ages: 4 to 7
Time: 30 minutes
Learning outcome: Pattern Recognition

About "Label The Groceries"
After your next grocery run, how about teaching your little one to "label data" (e.g. which products are fruits and vegetables). Once your child understands the game, you can then challenge your child to identify new fruits or vegetables, and let them predict the produce category it falls into.

Materials needed:
• Groceries

Instructions

  1. At the supermarket, explain and identify some fruits and vegetables.

  2. Educate your child on the definition of fruits and vegetables, by showing them examples and telling them the common characteristics among within the group.

  3. Get them to select and place the vegetables in different categories into different bags in your shopping trolley (e.g. vegetables are usually green, usually cooked to be edible, and grow on ground while fruits can be eaten raw, usually in different vibrant colours and grow on trees).

You may add more categories if your child is comfortable.
