Label The Groceries (Level 2)
Activity type: Offline
For ages: 4 to 7
Time: 30 minutes
Learning outcome: Pattern Recognition, Algorithm
About "Label The Groceries"
After your next grocery run, how about teaching your little one to "label data" (e.g. which products are fruits and vegetables). Once your child understands the game, you can then challenge your child to identify new fruits or vegetables, and let them predict the produce category it falls into.
Materials needed:
• Groceries
• Printable worksheet (download it here!)
Instructions
- Practise with the fruits and vegetables you've identified before.
- Prepare the printable colouring worksheet (download here), and let your child have fun with colouring them. Then, get them to sort the items into groups.
- Ask them what the characteristics of each food item are, and ask them why they are classified in that particular group. This is to reinforce their learning and for them to be familiar with the different categories. For example, if you have taught them lettuce are vegetables the week before, you should ask them what category it belongs to and what makes lettuce a vegetable.
